Can't install Windows 7. Driver missing for GSA-4083N-(PM)

I`ve tried to install Windows 7 on my T60P.
It failed because shortly after I started installing the software (using a DVD and the built-in DVDRAM drive) a window popped-up, asking for a driver for that same DVDRAM drive model GSA-4083N-(PM).

I've searched at IBM/Lenovo`s website, for any clue at this forum as well as the manufacturer`s website LG and the Internet, to no avail.

Who of you is able to help me out of this frustrating problem?

What are you using for install media, and whatever it is does it work in another machine?

i can confirm that i've the exact same optical drive in my t60p. i've previously installed the win7beta and have installed retail win7ult64 on this machine twice, all without issue. win7 shouldn't need any driver other than whatever it's got natively to recognize it.

can you boot a linux live cd successfully?

@ Marie-Anne:

As I responded to your request for information about a Windows 7, 32-bit ATI X1400 driver - in this post - I recently installed Windows 7 on a T60 which has exactly the same DVD-drive as yours. As also reported in my post, I experienced zero problems. Did you attempt to carry out the Windows 7 installation in the same way as I did?

Thank you all for your replies!

This message is intended to keep you updated about the current situation:

1. I replaced my harddisk by a Vertex2 240GB SSD. I was intending a CLEAN install of W7.

2. A (obviously) legal Windows 7 Enterprise Dutch language version had been downloaded from Microsoft website. The downloaded image was copied to a DVD-disc.

3. The install of Windows 7 started, using the built-in DVDRAM, which resulted in the earlier described major problem.

Next steps:

1. A new download, a new DVD with Windows 7 Dutch language will be used to start a new install. Assumption: previous image was corrupted (?).

2. If this fails again, I'll try the same procedure. However, using the install of W7 Enterprise english version.

Stay tuned as I will keep you informed about proceedings!

Thank you!!

If that is literally what you did, then that is the problem. The .iso file must be burned to disc as an image, not a straight copy. There is a distinct difference.

I`m sorry for the misunderstanding, Harry.

The downloaded OS was burnt as an image on a DVD-disc, in both cases.

It seems that the first DVD with an image of the W7 OS installation sofware contained a failure.

Well, the installation of W7E runned absolutely flawlessly.
All required drivers are included in W7E.
Currently I`m updating the system with latest Microsoft updates.
After this I`ll be installing Thinkpad Update for the updates Lenovo is offering.
And finally I will install Microsoft Office 10 Pro.

Assumption:
I think the iso file of the FIRST download was corrupted!, which caused the problem as described in my first post.

Anyway, problem SOLVED!
