T61P - nVidia Beep codes

Will the long beep and two short beeps occur with "every boot" or is it a "once and done" deal? I see no references to it and I'm looking to maybe take a chance on a purchase of one.
I see instances where it seems that replacements have been refused after March 31 on machines with build dates that indicate the problem but because of the lack of an "in effect" warranty. Is there any "first hand" knowledge that a failure in a reasonable amount of time beyond the warranty expiration that a replacement will be authorized at "no charge"?
Any opinions?
