An external display works perfectly fine, so I know there are no GPU issues. I changed the video cable and the lcd screen (because the port connector was broken) and the problem persists. I can't imagine what else it could be. Any thoughts?

The internal display and the external are generated by different parts of the GPU, so it could very well be a faulty GPU. If you machine has the nVIDIA Quadro GPU, it very well may be where the fault lies.a.r.58 wrote:An external display works perfectly fine, so I know there are no GPU issues.
