Trackpoint issue and freezing mouse cursor

#1 Post by twister6 » Tue Apr 12, 2011 9:58 pm

Been using various Thinkpads for over decade, and never know how to call that pointer, so will refer to it as trackpoint :)

My older T60 all of a sudden got a problem with Trackpoint and freezing mouse cursor. No issues with touchpad, although its usually disabled but I had to enable it in this case, and no issues connecting usb mouse. Every time I reboot laptop, Trackpoint is fine but stops working after a few minutes or so, totally random. Sometime it resumes, but its pretty consistent starting from yesterday. I have all the latest drivers, and nothing new has been installed in awhile. Its confusing how this intermittent problem clears up after reboot. I'm leaning more toward something is wrong with Pointer mechanism which I have to replace. Any other suggestions? Maybe ribbon connector is loose? I know I probably should just buy a new keyboard to replace the whole thing. Seen a few on eBay and Amazon refurbished under $30. Is that a good deal? What do you guys think?

I would reseat the connector first. If that doesn't do it go for a new keyboard.
