Hi. I'm looking to upgrade my T60p with 3G Modem using original Lenovo/IBM parts. Would like to have it sim free. What parts do i need? Is the installation hard? Thanks in advance.

Hi ajuztam, is your T60p a 14.1", 15.0" or 15.4"?

Original Lenovo/IBM parts parts required:
1x Wireless WAN antenna (15.0-in.) - FRU: 91P6989 or 91P7029 (Includes keyboard bezel (Aux) antenna)
1x SIM card slot - FRU: 41W1353
1x Sierra Wireless MC8755 PCI Express MiniCard - FRU: 42T0835
Parts can be ordered online from
IBM parts or by
phone - Note: The IBM/Lenovo Sierra Wireless MC8755 PCI Express MiniCard - FRU: 42T0835 is very expensive (approx £330 inc Vat) from IBM parts, but maybe sourced for alot less from ebay etc.
If you were to modify your
T60p's BIOS to get around the BIOS whitelist then you have the choice of several
3G WWAN cards - for example - Huawei EM770/EM770W, Option GTM378/382, Sierra Wireless MC8775/MC8780/MC8790 etc.
A good place to start for installation of the relevant parts is the
T60 HMM and
Lenovo ThinkPad T60/p Service Videos.
