T60 can't boot up

#1 Post by caroline2011 » Wed Apr 20, 2011 3:34 am

Hi,

I have a T60 IBM lenovo since 2007, I changed my battery two times already...last time was in december 2009, now suddenly 2-3 days ago, when I wanted to turn the laptop on using on/off button on the laptop, it did not boot up, I had the AC adapter plugged in, so when I put my hand on on/off button, suddenly the ac and battery indicator both of them turned off!! then I removed the ac adapter and I tried again and nothing happened it was like a dead laptop, I removed the battery and put it back in it worked, since then, when I am working with laptop it is fine, but when I turned it off and try to turn it on after 10 mins, it 's not working and the same thing happens, but if I want to turn it on immediately it works. Please let me know if the problem is battery ( I hope so!!) if it's t60 think pad itself??

interesting...
i have a similar problem with a T60..
right now i'm putting off trying to figure out what the problem really IS, but my symptoms are that it will work with both ac adapter and battery..
turn it off and it won't restart until i pull the battery..
then it starts fine..
i swapped the battery with another and same problem exists..

so you might not have a bad battery but what exactly causes MY problem i do not yet know..
i recently got a POST error code reader and i'll see what it shows when i have the time to fuss with it..

welcome to the forum..

It is really strange, I am sure some thing is wrong with the laptop, I am really afraid to turn it off!!but I can't keep it on until I buy a new laptop..I spoke to IBM support in Australia yesterday the technician said it might be the battery but asked me to send the laptop for repairs :( because they are in a different city , I did not do and I am not sure how much I need to pay!! I am sure it is some thing inside the laptop itself that IBM technician knows...I just wonder why when we switch it off after few mins, we can start the laptop but after few hours, we need to remove the battery and put it on to force it to turn on!!! I think you are right, it's not battery it's some thing else, If I find out some thing I will write in here

If you know how to remove the keyboard, remove the wifi-card (near the middle, top, has 2 wires attached), then put the keyboard back (don't put the screws back in yet) and try it now.
If you have an Intel 3945ABG, those are not the best of cards, and could be the culprit.

thanks for your advice, two years ago I opened my laptop and removed key board all!! the same laptop but I could not find the problem !!! so I sent it for repair at that time it could be turned on but..monitor was like totally blank!! I don't know how they fixed but they charged me a little ..it might be some tricks like you told me I just found out some thing!! when I want to turn the lap top on with the adapter and battery in , it happens as I told in this post and it would not boot up and I had to remove the battery but, if I remove the ac adaptor and try to boot up it will turn on!! it's really strange but I am happier to use it this way...but i feel there is some thing wrong with mother board, don't you think? for now ,it's good , I tried yesterday and yesterday and turned it on without adaptor and when windows is up, I connect the adaptor, maybe it's power in my home I don't know
