Fan for T60P 2623DDU - Picture Warning
When I searched the forum to find the correct fan for my T60P I saw both fan numbers listed:
41V9932 (discrete)
41W6407 (discrete)
Is there no difference between them?
Thanks!

Re: Fan for T60P 2623DDU
I have almost the exact same machine and 41V9932 is the FRU# in mine. Consider changing just the fan instead of the entire fan/heatsink. It will be a lot cheaper and is easy to do.

Note: When removing, pry up the heatsink on the GPU SLOWLY and EVENLY. Don't tear or malform the pads.
Use an exacto knife to cut the foil and foam insulation
Use isopropyl alcohol to clean the CPU area
Get some foil tape in any store that sells chimney or air duct parts, like Home Depot and reseal the fan duct afterwards
Remove the tape from the fan connector wire that holds it down to the heatsink and reuse it for the new fan.

Where's the best place to buy these genuine parts?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Fan for T60P 2623DDU - Picture Warning
The best place to buy a genuine 41v9932 is from Lenovo ($63 plus tax and shipping). If you just want a fan try EBay.taichi wrote:Where's the best place to buy these genuine parts?

Thanks, Harryc.
The following part numbers (41V9932, 41W6407) refer to the whole fan and heat sink assembly, I take it?
Out of curiosity would the 41W6407 fit as well? I'll porder the 41W6407, though, as you did, given that our models are so similar.
I'm not great with hands on tech, so I'd probably take the unit to my favorite (and trusted) computer repair.
Recently I was worried that the occasional purring that I was hearing was the hard drive, motivating me to clone my drive to a new 500GB Scorpio Black, but I still occasionally notice the purring...hence the fan.
When I originally called my repair place the tech asked me if the purring (on the left side of the T60P) was closer to the screen or the palm rest. Through a trick of acoustics (and because guiltily I had not fully backed up my drive) I interpreted the sound as coming from the drive, and quickly ordered the Scorpio Black.
The upside is that I have a new, larger, faster drive, but now it appears the purring is really emanating from the area close to the screen. Naturally there was no purring when I had the unit at the tech!

That purring could be an inverter (inside the bottom of the LCD-lid) that's nearing the end of its useful life.
When you hear it again, put your ear close to the right-bottom of the LCD.

It seems to me the purring is coming from the middle, near the LCD.
The display is very bright.
Thanks!

Pull out the hard drive and Ultrabay Optical drive and power on.
If you hear the noise it's the fan.

Re: Fan for T60P 2623DDU - Picture Warning
I'll do that soon, although I've never pulled either on the T60P. I'll probably need small screwdrivers.
So you think, with the display being bright and full of its IPS goodness, that the inverter is an unlikely cause of the sound?
Thanks, Harryc

Re: Fan for T60P 2623DDU - Picture Warning
Hard to say ... an inverter can buzz and still function correctly.
Re: Fan for T60P 2623DDU - Picture Warning
Ah. So the HD and Optical drive pull doesn't exclude the possibility of the inverter.
Any outcome will send me to my repair guy as I'm not too hands on.
Thanks Harryc

Re: Fan for T60P 2623DDU
I remember when I making chimney repairing work in last summer my technician gave me an advise to use the 41V9932 made fan to remove the smoke from the outside.

Re: Fan for T60P 2623DDU - Picture Warning
41W6407 is official fan for T60 2007-FUG with better cooling properties, where as - 41V9932 is same with physical aspect as 41W6407 and fits same. If you are using CPU 57C and GPU 65C then 41V9932 runs fine on normal temp but it heats up quickly when there are many processes running out.
In short I can say 41W6407 is better version of 41V9932.
If anyone particularly need more information, please post - I will happily prove that I am human.
@hunterman223 - My big thanks to God
Cheers.
ps - I recently switched to ideapad from thinkpad - they make good designs on ideapad.

My apologies, but i just find it really hard to believe that someone recommended that you use a ThinkPad T60p heatsink assembly to remove smoke from a chimney.
But if that's what people are doing these days...
