T60p UXGA versus X220 IPS?

Has anyone made the switch to the new X220 IPS panel laptops, that had a T60p UXGA to compare the two?

I wonder if the new panel is 6 bit IPS (like some of the cheap Asus IPS monitors), or if its the full 8 bit?

How's the resolution change? I imagine the loss of real estate hurts, but maybe its enough for regular use?

The X220 with IPS is the only laptop out there thats at all tempting right now, inquiring minds want to know :-)

Cheers,
Mitch

I can't say much about the X220i as I don't have mine yet, but I did go from a UXGA R60 I built down to a X200 with the AFFS mod. I too thought I be bummed about the resolution, but it didn't really bother me much at all. My R60 was so big and heavy, having an imminently more portable machine more than made up for the resolution decrease. The way I look at it is you can only look at one thing at a time anyway. The stick is so easy to scroll on it really mitigates the loss in resolution in my opinion.

I have a T60P that I'll be able to compare my X220 Premium against once I get it. For me, I'm going from a X301 to the X220 so it's not a huge loss in pixels but it's still a loss. I'm hoping that the IPS screen (and the HUGE processor speed bump) will make up for it as the X301's screen isn't the best in terms of brightness/color shift at angles. I REALLY wish they made a X220 with a 1600x900 IPS screen option as I MUCH prefer high pixel pitch screens....no strike that, I REALLY wish they made a X302/X320/etc. with a 1600x900 IPS screen, I7 QM and a ultra thin BluRay reader/DVD burner (BluRay burner would be nice but not necessary)...and 2-2.5lbs....I can dream can't I?! :)

Oh, how do you tell the difference between a 6-bit and 8-bit IPS screen?

You can't, really. It still looks very much the same.

I have a BOE Hydis UXGA and find it a bit too bright so it is set to 6 through ThinkVantage Power settings, one notch before max.
Can anyone post their configurations if your system is also implemented to enlarge the characters/legends (I also fine it a little too small to be able to read comfortably).
ie. Adjusting the Font size DPI in Control Panel->Personalization + Font size of Browser, to what DPI & Percentage ?
or
Adjust Font DPI only, if so to what DPI ?
or
Adjust Browser Font only, to what percentage ?

I know it'll be much simpler to adjust the Screen Panel resolution, but moving away from the default resolution takes away a little sharpness/clarity/just doesn't seem right display.
