Will my HD boot outside of model?

#1 Post by MeCasa » Mon May 09, 2011 1:58 pm

I'd like to buy a used T60 to replace my dead 60 but I'd like to plug in my HD. I'm 90% sure this will work if I stay within series (mine is 2623D6U)

But does anybody know specifically how far I can wander from series?

Thanks

Pretty far. Assuming it's XP, pretty much any T60, T61, Z61, X60, X61, R60 or R61 should work.

Some drivers will need updating, but it should boot. With Vista or Win7, even more current machines will work, too.

I thought the same because I swap hd's like people swap CD's but the 61 wouldn't fire up with the 60 HD and that made me wary. I think there's enough differences in the 60 and 61 that XP Pro noticed but after reading your post I think I should be OK if I stick to a 60, looking for a specific model T60 will cut back my options on buying a clean second hand unit and I don't want to pay more than $200.
