I have licence ) for XP sticked on the back ,works well , but windows 7 looks better :) but really runs faster ? I see one stick bellow kwyboard that says 'Designed for XP ' , really worth upgrading to windows 7 and lose my actual XP licence ?

If you put in a total of 3GB RAM, you can use it all, with 4GB you can use ~3.3GB (chip limitation won't let you use more).
The 32-bit versions of W7 should run really well in it.
If you want the 64-bit W7 version, you'll need to upgrade the CPU to a Core-2-Duo version.
However, there are only few programs for 64-bit, so it's not worth it.
If you buy the full W7, it should come with it's own W7 COA.
The XP COA that's on it now will remain valid and you would need it if you get a W7 Upgrade.
If you go the full W7 way, you could theoretically remove the XP COA and sell it to another Thinkpad user who lost/damaged his COA.

Whether it is worth it to go from XP to W7, that's up to you.
To run older (XP) programs you'll need at least W7-Pro. W7-Home does not have XP-compatibility mode.

I had Win7 Ultimate for a while in my T60, albeit with 3GB. It worked wonderful! I would not go back to XP in a machine like that (I'm using now Ubuntu on it). I have to add that in my case it was used for normal web/office operations.

My 0.02 cents...

i can atest to this...I am running 3gb of RAM on my T60 and Win 7 Ultimate. I think the PC runs great. Initially there were a few drivers i had to get from Lenovo...I think Video Card, On-Screen Display and Function Keys....Power Manager and Advantage connections i put on just because but yo don have to...

For me and my computer needs, no. Not worth the $$ to me. Linux will fill my needs better, or use XP when I need Windows.

If that's important to you, you can make XP look a lot like 7, and with third party software, you can add most of 7's features.

Probably not so much that you would notice, IMHO. A fresh install of any Windows will feel faster than an older, bloated system. I have compared fresh installs of the two on exactly the same hardware, and in the short time I used them, couldn't really tell much difference in "speed".

thank you , I think for now I will stay with xp ,saving the price of Windows 7 license (which is close to the price I pay it for T60 itself..), I dont really trust anymore for cracked versions , I use it one once with a fresh system and went 3 times to pc seller asking to replace video card ,than mobo, etc only to see by mistake that another laptop with same system installed was doing the same problems..installed license and all fine now..

Wise choice, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, though. Each new release is an improvement of the previous. Just as Vista was better than XP, so 7 is better than Vista (and XP). But, it's just an incremental improvement, mostly for marketing purposes, and since XP is still supported, it's completely adequate for most casual users. I think it's the marketing hype that makes us think we "need" the newest, latest everything...when truthfully most of us don't.

Depending on who's reporting the stats; about 66% of windows users are still on XP, down from 76% at Windows 7 introduction. I'll keep it as long as there is support.
