About T60 inverters

#1 Post by PuuFa » Sat May 28, 2011 10:07 am

I am installing a 15" UXGA IPS panel in a screen assembly which was originally an XGA in a T60. The question is if the inverter with FRU 42T0079 is the only way to go or is there any others that would be fully compatible? The inverter from my XGA assembly is 42T0077. Does anyone know what's actually different between these two?

The cable and inverter for a XGA screen can be used for the UXGA screen as well. It's the same for the R60 too.

Thanks for the fast reply! I got confused about the inverters as the boards originally shipped with UXGA have different FRU than others. So it's completely sure it will work on long run?

According to 15 inch LCD service parts - ThinkPad T60, T60p (4:3 format LCD's) XGA and SXGA+/UXGA T60/p's uses different inverters but use the same cable.

@ FredGarvin: Can you positively confirm (from actual knowledge) that 42T0077 is identical to 42T0079?? According to T60: Display inverter XGA vs. SXGA+/UXGA the power consumption of XGA and UXGA LCD's are different...

It works.

I put a 15" SXGA+ LCD (LG Phillips) in my boys' R60e and changed nothing apart from the actual panel. Works like a charm.

Alright, sounds like it will work but does it also stay that way in a longer period? Talking about several years of use now. Also could it possibly affect on a screen brightness?

Maybe the best way to make sure would be if someone could measure the current from the both inverters. Otherwise I guess it's maybe more safe to find a 42T0079.

I've done it too on a R60 and a R60e, and it worked with no issues. I've not done it on the T60, but I know it's been done here, though I can't find a post documenting it.
