Hi,
I have a Thinkpad T60, yesterday night i had a glass with a bit of limonade next to it, accidentally i spilled it in the side of the laptop where you have the fan (?), i mean, in the left side. It was connected to the AC and suddenly it got powered off. I put it on its side so all the liquid could get out of it and removed the battery for a while, then put it again and try to turn it on but it was death. Then i connected the AC adapter to it and tried again, but this time it worked.
But as soon as i unplug the AC adapter it get powered off.
I'm not sure wheter it could be the battery that got damaged or the mobo. I don't have Windows installed in this machine since i use Linux, and when i do:
'acpi' i get this response:
# acpi
Battery 0: Unknown, 98%
Then when i try: cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state
I get:
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: charged
present rate: 0 mW
remaining capacity: 41670 mWh
present voltage: 12450 mV
It seems a bit weird to me that the present rate says that is 0mW (this makes me think that maybe the battery could be damaged). Also when i execute acpi i get an "Unknown" status of the battery, but thinking about it, maybe the battery part of the mobo could be damaged, but don't know
What do you say?
Is there a way that i could test if it is the battery or the mobo?
The ideal scenario would be to test with another one, but i don't have other and i would want to know before buying some replacement so i don't lose my money.
Thanks

Re: Spill liquid on my T60, is battery or mobo damaged?
my guess is the motherboard is damaged..
the T60 is SUPPOSED to have a keyboard that routs liquid through little drain holes rather than onto the motherboard (really called a "planar" but we usually call it a "system board")..
what I would have done is to immediately disconnect everything, pull it apart and rinse the planar in alchohol.. denatured not single malt..
let it dry and THEN reassemble and see whats up..
at this point you might try looking closely at the battery to see if any liquid got on it but, again, my guess is the charging circuit OR, maybe, liquid in the plug to the thinkpad..
be aware that there is a data circuit AND the DC that goes through that plug..
welcome to the forum..

Re: Spill liquid on my T60, is battery or mobo damaged?
Well i bought a new battery, and still the same, i mean, where the AC adapter is not plugged that computer is death. It doesn't do anything.
One weird thing is that this new battery is 9 cells but it only show it's charged up to 51% more or less, sometimes it is less... :S
Now that i bought a new battery and still the problem persists, what do you think?
Should i replace the mobo?
Thanks
