I thought I had run across every optional part of a T61, but I have a T61p here with FRU 42T0885. It is listed in the 15.4" service manual as a Wireless USB adapter. There is a single ivory-colored antenna wire that goes into the LCD via the right hinge. What is it used for? What would I need if I wanter to test it?

Hey Rich, wireless USB is short range wireless communications. Probably the most common use is to use a WUSB hub to hook up remote USB devices like printers, drive enclosures, and scanners.

I also have a FRU 42T0885 wireless USB adapter in a T61, are there modern
devices that use this protocol? Wondering if it is worth leaving in the laptop.

Nope, the standard never gained traction against Bluetooth and faded away.
