Display frame cracked. Need an advice

#1 Post by garnet » Wed Jun 01, 2011 5:29 am

Hi all
The TP in my sig got a small crack in the display frame. This is the fron part ot the display, where the screws are. The crack in in the right side, down where the screw is just next to the hinge. It is about 1" in length. Stays closed and there is no movement to it when close/open the screen.
The question is what is next? Can I buy only the front part of the screen frame? Is yes is it hard to replace?
What part number should I look for?
For the time being I think I can live with it - seems stable. It is just annoying to see it :)

You are talking about a cracked LCD bezel, but for which machine? The one in your sig?

Ok, so you have a 15.4" widescreen SXGA+ T60. From Lenovo, it comes as part of a 'cover kit' and the FRU# for that is 42W2605. On EBay you'd want something like this - http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-42W2998-T60-T61 ... 3364fe83a6
That seller refers to it as FRU# 42W2998, so you can probably try to order that as well ...

Wow sorry, a typo.
It is 8743-cto indeed.
So, the above advice for the FRU is still correct?
Also what about the replacing - easy or hard?

I never replaced an T60 bezel, my only experience is with a X40 model. It was not really difficult, but I had to be patient and work very carefully as that bezel was attached with double sided tape. At the end it depends a lot on your skills and level of patience.

The T60 HMM (hardware maintenance manual) has very good instructions how to replace parts, I would start downloading it from here and taking a look from page 117 onwards. You'll get a very good idea what to expect when changing the bezel.

Hope this helps...

Thanks a lot all of you. I think it is doable.
Maybe time to add bluetooth card at this stage :)
