Hi, sorry if this has been answered a few dozen times already. I'm looking into upgrading my RAM to 8Gb and was wondering if the T61 is only limited to DDR2 PC2-5300 or if the PC2-6400 will work as well.

I've always had good experience with Samsung and I'm thinking I will stick with them for this upgrade too. I was wondering if Samsung carries any 4Gb single RAM that will fit into my T61 please?

@ ausmike, any T61 I've run across will take 8GB of RAM. The 3GB chipset limitation you're thinking of applies to T60's. @ SerraAvatar, PC2-6400 should work just fine, but it will run as if it's PC2-5300.

Any *61 (Except for Z61, which = *60) can accept 8gb ram. All you need to do is make sure it is DDR2, and everything should work.

Using PC-6400S 2 X 4GB in a T61. Everything works fine, 64-bit OS sees all 8GB. Also PC doctor diagnostic is able to see all 8GB.

been searching and found this post....
so for my T61, there is no benefit using PC2-6400?
The max RAM speed a T61 can operate is PC2-5300?

The benefit of 2x4GB PC2-6400 bought for my T61 consisted of being quite a bit cheaper than the PC2-5300 at the time i bought the modules. I'd keep that in mind as well.

Besides the newer faster ram being cheaper, if the day comes that you canablize the dead laptop, the faster ram should be of use in newer/faster laptops, so it's a win/win to get the faster ram if it's cheaper.

Sadly 4GB DDR3 chips are cheaper than 4GB DDR2

Any ideas where I could find a good priced 2 x 4GB DDR2 ? cause DDR3 is now so much cheaper than DDR2. But, I'd like to find the best source for this.
