General T60 questions

I just bought this thinkpad off newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834246119

I have a uncle sending me 1GB of ram for it. other than the usual swap out the HDD for a larger one, and maybe a DVD burner for the ultrabay slim. Is there any worthwhile upgrades i should do, perhaps swap in a Core 2 Duo if it is not too hard to take apart. Also on this model, are there any trouble spots on it?

Most here would recommend installing a solid-state hard drive as your best bang for the buck. I also like to put in a faster CPU, which is about a ten minute job on these. The T60 ThinkPads have proven to be quite reliable.

is the t60 one of the thinkpads that require certain hard drives, or can it use anything?

Cool, some friends told me that there were thinkpads that required a HDD that was on a bios list.

Do you think sticking with Xp and using tweaked GMA 950 drivers is a good idea?

That limitation pertains to the T43/R52.

Considering it comes with an advanced mini dock, I'd say you paid the current market rate for the laptop. You didn't overpay if it is in good condition and 100% functional when it arrives.

Yeah, especially since IBM wants $329 for the same thing w/o the dock.

Before you spend more money on this T60, use it for several weeks to make sure you like it first. In particular, you may not like the 1024x768 resolution, which is very low for such a large screen.

Not to mention the fact it's a pretty terrible panel to begin with. 8)

I am okay with 1024x768 on a screen of that size. i had a imac G4 with the same resolution not too long ago

Was this an IBM refurbish or a 3rd party. How is the quality? The 15 inch at that resolution is nice for browsing on the couch...nice sized text.

I would do the SSD over the fast processor...battery savings...way faster, generates insignificant heat vs HD.

Quality is excelent, looks like a lenovo done refurbish, but it was repackaged and had USED product stickers placed on the bottom and the power adapter. both were removed
