Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1.5 TB Ultra-Portable question

#1 Post by nomad5150 » Tue Jun 14, 2011 2:10 am

So has anyone tried cracking open the case of a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1.5 TB USB 3.0 Ultra-Portable and droppng it into an ultrabay? I'm fairly mobile most of the time so weight and the amount of things I keep (or rather don't keep) in my laptop bag is key. Currently I'm using 2 Seagate Momentux XT 500 GB drives (1 primary 1 in the ultrabay). But having 1.5 TB of storage without the need for an extra cable is very appealing. There are times when I need to have multiple vmware images with me. I know the 1.5TB is a slower drive, but if would be nice to have this an option

Welcome to the forum!

According to Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Portable Hard Drive Review the 1.5 TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1.5 TB Ultra-Portable drive is 12.5 mm high rendering it impossible to fit into an UltraBay enclosure.

The largest 9.5 mm high 2.5" SATA HDD currently available (hence suitable for e.g. ThinkPad's) are those pointed to in the thread T60 largest drive.

thanks - I had a feeling the 1.5 would be too big, so much for wishful thinking.
