I just purchased a certifed pre-owned T61, boosted the memory to 4GB and dropped a 500GB HD and Windows 7 64bit (I wanted the ability to use more than 3GB of memory). It was basically, cost-effective replacement for a relative's computer that recently bit the dust. Anyway, today out of the blue, the display started to have a bunch of horizontal lines. However, rebooting the system made the problem go away. Any thoughts?

Is it an nVidia GPU-equipped T61? These have a known manufacturing defect with the graphics adapter, which eventually leads to failure. The symptoms you described are some of the possible symptoms of the failure.

truth be told I'm not certain what video card is. I can remote in an check, but are there any fixes, driver updates that'd you'd suggest?

Assuming it is indeed the hardware problem I fear, no driver updates will help you. You cannot cure a physically damaged hardware with software. But let's check before jumping to conclusions.

you make a fair and valid point, but I'll remote into the system today and see what type of video card it has. That would be a shame if that ended up being the case as it tells me the q/a process is flawed.
