How to get the ATI CCC on Win7 T60?
How to get the ATI CCC on Win7 T60?
I've got Windows 7 on my T60 now. Windows supplied the driver for the ATI X1400, which seems to be working fine. However, I'd like to get the ATI Powerplay function to try to cool down the GPU. I know this is accessible through the ATI Catalyst Control, however IBM/Lenovo does not seem to have an ATI software package for Windows 7. Can I install the XP version? Or the Vista version? Or is there another solution to this?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Windows will only supply the driver, not the whole software suite. Have you went to ATI(AMD)'s site and downloaded the package?

or 64bit:

IIRC you can choose which parts you want to install.
I know that url has "vista" in it, but I reached it bly clicking "Windows 7" on the right side of this page:

Re: How to get the ATI CCC on Win7 T60?
Yes, I did. It doesn't work. Just for kicks I tried again, following your link. After it downloads, running "Setup" launches the "ATI Catalyst Install Manager." So far so good. Well, running this doesn't really do anything. It actually says that all it installing is "ATI Catalyst Install Manager" which would be.....itself. Then when it is finished, there is no "Congradulations!" or "Please Restart Your Computer" or anything. And there is no CCC anywhere to be found. BTW, its target installation folder (C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies) is empty.ozzymud wrote:Windows will only supply the driver, not the whole software suite. So then I went snooping around and found in C:\AMD\Catalyst_Mobility_32-Bit_Util a file called CatalystMobility. I ran it, and turns out to be "ATI Catalyst Mobility Download." That sounds cool, but it just gives an error message that my "computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter" and that ATI Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded. Sigh.
I wonder if this all has to do with ATI pretty much refusing to support the X1400. I found them (ATI) to be useless when I was trying to get the CCC under WinXP......which was ultimately quite successful once I found the files with Lenovo/IBM. As stated in my OP....there is nothing there for Win7.

This is prolly cause your using the Lenovo or Microsoft version of the driver... try replacing the current driver with the ATI provided one, shoulda extracted to the same folder you found the downloader.mbarker wrote:"computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter"

There are known issues with CCC and Windows 7.
Long story short, it does not work, at least in my expererience.

I got it working following the Mobility Modder instructions at Driver Heaven:

Welcome to the forum!
... and thanks for sharing this very interesting info (since I have also once messed with getting CCC to work in a T60 under Windows 7 Home Premium). Two questions here:
1) What computer and OS did you get this to work for? A T60 of some kind (if so, what type/model, e.g. like 2007-QPG) and what OS (e.g. Windows 7 Professional)?
2) Are you able to enable CCC's PowerPlay to put your T60 (if you're using a T60?) into "Battery Optimized" operation while running on AC mains? (see an image of the PowerPlay feature here).
Thanks!
Johan

i assume he used windows 7
i also have the question that how "safe" is it to use this?
i would like to just downclock my card when using an advanced dock

Re: How to get the ATI CCC on Win7 T60?
To update.....
I have good news and bad news.
First, I tried the Mobility Modder that queuebert suggested....this did not work. Supposedly it modified the files but when I ran the ATI Setup I got the same problem that I described above- The ATI Catalyst Install Manager still did not really install anything.
So, I decided to just try the drivers/CCC for Vista from Lenovo. The good news is, this installed and it works. Although the driver is an older version than Win7 was using, I have the CCC now.
The bad news is that I've selected the "Enable Power Play" option but it is not reducing the GPU temperature. Also, the "Enable ATI Powerplay Control in NHC" option is greyed out (unavailable) in Notebook hardware control.
So...I guess trying to cool this thing down is a lost cause....thanks for the suggestions.

Re: How to get the ATI CCC on Win7 T60?
How about using the overclocker's too to underclock it when you don't need the speed...
http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/
couple of the features:
Adjustment of GPU and memory voltage <--- this is what power play does
Loading a predefined clock profile on Application/Windows startup. <--- load underclocked, set back to normal profile when needed.
I mean you definitely don't want to overclock a laptops video... but underclocking along with under voltage will cool it off a lot.
