Is there a T60 with 512Mb in graphics memory?

Hi, all.

Am considering upgrading my Thinkpad T60 with Intel graphics, to a T60 with what according to the seller is a similar machine (although also eg a 15" screen compared to my 14" as of now) -- but that has ATI graphics of 512Mb.

I am unable to view any detailed information regarding the computer at this moment, but the CPU is a "Intel Core Duo T2600 2,16 Ghz, Centrino".

My question is -- are there really T60's with 512Mb of graphic memory?

I am asking since I by quickly browsing the web have been unable to locate any such varietys. Of course if untrue, it might mean nothing else than the seller being mistaken.

Thank you!

No. T60 with ATI graphics can be either with X1300 (64MB), X1400 (128MB) or a T60p with V5200/5200 (256MB).

However, due to shared memory features, sometimes the operating system will display these as if having 512MB of memory.

Welcome to the forum, Olof!

As to your question about "upgrading" to a T60 with Intel graphics, I would suggest that you share with us:

1) What your present ThinkPad (or other laptop, or desktop) is, and

2) What is the reason why you want to "upgrade", and

3) What is the anticipated use of your new ThinkPad, such as e.g. light internet browsing, e-mail'ing, reading, writing, or heavy CPU and/or GPU intensive processing? What OS (operating system) do you prefer; such as perhaps Windows XP ("Extended Support End Date" is 08/04/2014) or Windows 7 - and also: Do you need 64-bit support, or is 32-bit sufficient?

4) What is important to you, in priority, such as e.g. size, weight, speed, long battery time, low fan noise, huge disk storage capabilities, powerful CPU and/or GPU (this of course depends of your anticipated use), small or large display, display quality (doyou know about "FlexView/IPS" LCD, that are available on certain ThinkPad's?), display resolution... you satisfied with XGA, or would you prefer SXGA+ or perhaps UXGA?

Modern laptop GPU's "borrows" system RAM when needed (this is called "Hypermemory" by ATI; see e.g. Wikipedia on ATI hypermemory or Google to learn more about it). The T60's came with the following graphics cards:

a) Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (integrated, hence no dedicated GPU) and
b) ATI MOBILITY Radeon X1300 (64 MB dedicated video RAM) and
c) ATI MOBILITY Radeon X1400 (having 128MB od dedicated video RAM).

T60p's came with ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5200 or V5250 (having 256MB of dedicated video RAM). For more information about T60's, I'd suggest you refer to Personal Systems Reference, Lenovo ThinkPad Notebooks, 2005 to present - withdrawn, June 2011 - Version 401. For more information about the graphics cards in the T60's, see e.g. Wikipedia on Comparison of AMD graphics processing units or Wikipedia on Intel Graphics Media Accelerator.

By the way, have you seen these: FS: Beautiful MINT T60 ThinkPads with 15" SXGA+ Flexview which are sold by a trustworthy forum member. Get one of these, drop in a SSD, upgrade to Windows 7 and you will be flying!
