How would one do that or whom would you get to do it?

PS Bit cheeky of the guy - Swiftectech - to sell the panel as specifically "new Screen IBM T60/t60p LCD 15" UXGA FFS Hydis"

or is there a problem with the edid?
Yes, the EDID is missing on the Swiftectech delivered HV150UX1-101 display panels. I have just gone through the stages of sending them back mine.

I bought two of these from the same seller, as they were explicitly advertised as working for the T60 and i already had aquired properly working display panels of the same type (HV150UX1-101) from elswehere, but they wouldn't display anything although the backlight was properly working.

I complained with the seller and he agreed to send me two HV150UX1-100 (which have the missing EDID) as replacement once he received the not working panels. I sent them the panels and in parallel opened a dispute with Paypal in order to protect the money i invested. Since the non-functional panels were delivered in rather poor packaging and one of them also had some prior damage on the back which was unrelated to the shipping, i asked the seller for a full refund. As verified by package tracking, the sent back panels have already arrived, as has been confirmed also by them, but i didn't hear back from them for a few days since then. I sent them a reminder yesterday, and also made clear that i would rather prefer a full refund of my money as i have lost all trust with their service. I dearly hope the Paypal buyer protection is worth what they claim it to be.

I assume that he is not really a professional, and that he is now learning the hard way how to properly advertise goods with not well known properties. See my other posting about my current Swiftec endeavour.

Uh, oh. On Friday I posted the thread linked below about a non-working new Boe Hydis panel.

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=101034

Turns out that panel came from the same ebay seller (Swiftectech) that people have mentioned in this thread. The panel appeared to be brand new and completely unblemished but when I powered it up I had to hold a flashlight up to the screen in order to make out the Thinkpad logo. In the linked thread there is a linked picture to the dim screen.

Anyway, I contacted the seller for a replacement and returned it yesterday. I don't want a refund I just want a screen that works. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get international tracking via USPS but I got other documentation. Swift has been easy to deal with for me but since the 45 day 'buyer protection' window is rapidly closing (6 more days), I think it might be wise if I open a case just to protect myself.

Yes that may be possible. I just wanted to point out that a bare panel is not compatible with the T60, you have to make it compatible. May be the flashing could in fact put the "FRU" inside the panel, or if only the data as "this is an official panel, this is okay for use".

... check the eBay-seller "cgsplcd" for T60 FlexView/IPS LCD

... what an annoyance! :-(

If of interest, however, you may try search this forum for information and feedback about the eBay seller cgsplcd (see e.g. this post) as he has received very fine feedback here for his quality of T60/p UXGA FlexView/IPS LCD's. Take a look at his eBay advertisement --> (New!!) HV150UX1-101 compatible HV150UX1-100 13N7076 for T60 T42 T43.

Try (using Google) to search for e.g. "cgsplcd LCD site:forum.thinkpads.com" etc.

PS: I have never bought from this gentleman myself, and I have no association with him of any kind.

Sounds like a good move to me.

If it is a Hydis UXGA FFS LCD, it shoudl have the ViewViz label on the back. If it doesn't, it's probably a compatible and not the Hydis LCD. That'd be my guess anyway. This is a pretty common practice on eBay. If you see a screen really cheap, it's probably not the Hydis.

Oh, it was a legitimate new Hydis panel. It had the ViewViz sticker on the back and all. Its a just a bad panel. And yes I did open a case on ebay and alerted the seller who understood completely. I remain optimistic that we will be able to resolve this with a minimum of hassle.

@smw6230:

Off the topic, but a small FYI: the customs form number (CP---------US) is trackable on www.usps.com

Good luck.

Hello all,

I also purchased a UXGA panel from Swiftech and I did not see any eeprom on the back of the display similar to what was on the LG panel. I went ahead and installed in my t60P assuming it would not work but it started right up into UXGA resolution. Why did it work as I thought it needed the eeprom?

On another note the panel does have some dust spots on it that I am in conversation with the seller about.

Was it a HV150UX1-100 or a HV150UX1-101? The HV150UX1-100 should work. Did it have a FRU?

Swiftectech finally answered and very politely apologized, and they also agreed to give me a full refund. Still waiting for the money though.

Yeah, I discovered that yesterday on accident.

Yes, it looks like it was a HV150UX1-100 when I used PC Wizard to interrogate. I do not remember if there was a FRU.

Just curious, what I read is that the monitor must have EDID info so the graphic card can communicate with it, so where is this info stored if there is not a EEPROM on the display.

The EEPROM is on the back of the LCD, on the green board along the top.
It's an 8-pin small black chip above the left half of the LCD cable connector.

Thank you, I do remember seeing that post. The electronics on the back of the LCD (HV150UX1-100) were unlike (I could not see any IC's) the LG panel I removed or as shown in the picture in the Troels post. Here is the eBay listing that shows the panel's backside.

Today i have finally received a full refund for the returned panels. Unfortunately, the return had a slightly lower value due to a less favorable USD to EUR conversion rate, and also the return postage added an even worse additional loss on top of that. But i have learned and understand now to never fully trust a seller's item description and better ask for confirmation of it's technical validity before any further bidding. I am glad it didn't turn out worse.

Just bumping this to update my situation with the seller Swiftectech on ebay .

Swift's replacement panel arrived today. Upon hooking everything up the replacement panel functions flawlessly. No scratches, no dead spots, no dust or or marks are anywhere on the screen. The image itself is perfect.

This is my first flexview so its taking some adjustment to get use to. I upgraded from a A31 that had a 1400X1050 SXGA+ display and while waiting for the Hydis panel I was rollin' with a Samsung 1024x768. I've got excellent eyesight but going from a 1024x768 to a 1600X1200 resolution takes an adjustment period.

I can see why people rave about the flex screens. The clarity of image leaps and bounds better than a standard screen. Also the viewing angles are everything that was advertised. The only nit is that its not as bright as a standard panel but as my eyes adjust the lack of brightness is hardly noticeable.

In sum, my situation with Swiftectech was resolved quickly, easily and to my complete satisfaction. I'd buy from the guy again but hopefully I won't be in the market for a screen for a while :D
