Backlight problem

Hello,

my Thinkpad T60 has a problem with the backlight.
At first the screen looked a bit reddish for the first couple of minutes after the booting up.
Some days later, the screen turned black after using it for some time. I could get the screen back to normal by putting the T60 into sleep and waking up.
Now the screen is always black, if I come very close to the screen I can see my wallpaper vaguely.

I am pretty sure that this has something to do with the backlight.
How can I solve this problem?

Remarkably, I noticed that a little spot just above one of the small yellow lights (see http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1129/142 ... 55a5_z.jpg for its location) becomes very hot, nearly impossible to touch it.
Maybe this has to do something with the problem?

Thanks a lot!

Well, the inverter is above those LEDs, so it would get hot if the CCFL is bad or shorted. You need a new LCD my friend. CCFL replacement is not recommended due to the difficulty of the repair combined with the unavoidable dirt entering into the equation. Many experts on this board avoid CCFL replacement like the plague.
