What does "n-disabled" mean on a 4965AGN?

#1 Post by dorronto » Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:56 am

I have a T61 15.4" laptop with an Intel 4965ag wireless card with n disabled?

Can I use the "n" band with an extra antenna wire. I know "n" needs a third antenna..

Device mgr states only a 4965ag...

I'm thinking about selling this laptop and a person who is interested asked me....

Thanks,
Ron

N-disabled means: N does not work, regardless of what you try, or how many antennas you connect.
Most likely a component on the card is missing.
Alternative e.g.: Intel Advanced 6200N half-size MiniPCIe + half-size bracket. That subject has been discussed in several threads.

You can get a 4965 n-enabled card off e-bay for about $ 25. Interestingly, the 14.1 4:3 form-factor T61s that I've opened up already have the 3rd antenna wire installed so its just a matter of switching the cards and connecting the wires.
