Mouse issues?

#1 Post by skou » Fri Jul 29, 2011 1:35 am

OK a friend brought me a T61 to see if I could fix.

Here are the issues. It beeps a constant 3 beep signal the whole time it's on. Also, the mouse buttons do not work at all. You can move the cursor around, but why? The buttons don't do a thing.

Since he just got it, and had nothing on it, I tred a re-install. Well, once you need buttons, it's history.

Also, the guy he got it from didn't give him the passwords. I'm going to suggest that he gets his money back, since I'm not about to ask for help with that issue.

Yeah that's a show-stopper if a Supervisor password is set. Take a look here - https://www1.ethz.ch/id/support/neptun/ ... ssword.pdf

I had similar problems with the mouse where I can move it but couldnt press any buttons. turned out to be one stuck button that was pressed and froze the rest. Either pressed or shorted out inside somehow. If you hold one of the buttons on a functioning machine you can simulate the problem.

Well, since this has 2 sets of buttons, I tried removing the palmrest, with the touchpad and those buttons.

SUCCESS!

Well, almost.

Still have the passwords, but I called the guy, and he said he gambled on this, so he's out. He asked me if I wanted it for my labors.

So, I've got a slightly used, beat-up T61. W7 is installing as I type.
