Installing Windows 7 on T61
Hi, I am thinking of instaling windows 7 on my T-61 machine which has Vista OS.
Has anyone done this and experienced any issues?
Any issues that I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance

Yes, it installs pretty smoothly but don't forget to load all the drivers from the Lenovo site.

So you would say its a big difference from XP? Would you say its worth the upgrade? Been using xp for years and kinda got used to it.

Well, all the little grooming things you do (and probably no longer think much about), and utilities you probably run, to keep XP operational and stable will no longer be necessary.bass1175 wrote:Would you say its worth the upgrade? Been using xp for years and kinda got used to it.
Win 7 needs very little attention by comparision to XP.

Re: Installing Windows 7 on T61
Either vista SP2 or 7 require less attention than xp, and they can use IE9 and GPU acceleration. One thing I noticed after upgrading to 7 from vista was that I got ~1 hour less battery life (both 64 bit) - it was bad enough that I upgraded my desktop instead and took my laptop back to vista(some of the enhancements worked better on the bigger, higher resolution screen anyway, for example aero snap).

Great. Thanks for the advice goraman.
Re: Installing Windows 7 on T61
One thing to keep in mind is that the T61 doesn't meet system requirements for Lenovo's Power Management Driver under Windows 7. Users install it all the same and claim to see no problems, but one shouldn't be surprised if issues such as the following arise.

Re: Installing Windows 7 on T61
I too have been happily running Win 7 64 bit on my T61 for many months.
Surely there was an update to Power Mgr in the last few months... I received it via Thinkvantage system update. I don't recall but I thought it supported Win 7. Check the txt file on the Lenovo update web pages.
My Power Mgr is now at 3.59 with a 2011 copyright date.
...UPDATE: I have just checked System Update again and it now offers Power Mgr 3.61. Win 7 both 32 and 64 bit are listed as supported. Support for newer models and a few bug fixes, nothing deemed critical.

Please be aware that Lenovo's Power Manager and Lenovo's Power Management driver are two different things. I referred to the Power Management driver, the current version is 1.62
