Good evening,
I have a Thinkpad T61 7659-12G. I am wondering if it is possible to replace smart card reader (which i have absolutely no use for) with a 4 in 1 card reader?
I have tried to search ebay for a while now, but there seems to be no 4 in 1 card readers sold separately. Does it mean that they are not a part that you can change (soldered into MB)? Or they are hard(er) to remove, so no one actually bothers to sell them as separate parts?
I would be thankfull for any usefull information regarding this matter.
Best regards.

Re: 4 in 1 Card Reader in T61
Yes. It can be swapped. The part number is located in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for that model. It's not easy since it requires removal of the motherboard, but it can be done. I did it one time.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Depending on the module you have now, you may want or need to change the door over the slots.

Thank you very much for answers.
So I think it is better for me to find a donor t61, becouse it is near to impossible to find card reader and doors sold separately. But I am glad to know it is doable. Thank you very much again.
Best regards.
