Its really up to your preference. 4:3 (non widescreen) is best for web surfing, however, 16:9 (widescreen) is best for gaming, videos and space. For example, in 4:3, I can see more of the webpage if it required scrolling in 16:9. In 16:9, movies are usually widescreen and you have more space for applications, such as if you had a messenger on the left of the window, whilst you had a game covering the rest. Lenovo swapped to widescreen because of cost, it was alot cheaper for them to buy a 16:9 than a 4:3. They decided this on the 15" T60, it was cheaper to build a 16:9. Apparently, these are 'business laptops' because they're durable, but since the T60, they've been fragile as glass (okay, i'm exaggerating a bit). Anyway, 4:3 for me :P

Why are wide screens cheaper?
And how do they make the laptop more fragile?

A square is always more stable than a rectangle. Display producers mostly sell 16:9 displays. You simply can not get a 4:3 display at stock. You have to go to the producers and tell them you want exactly this special format. Apple did this with the iPad, but they have ordered large quantities.

Some 14.1in T61's are 4:3, but they are rare.
