What to check out on a "new" T61p

I have read through months of postings in this forum and elsewhere and know to check the build date to see of the revised NVIDA chip is present (no disassembly to actually look at the chip, that would be better but I have this on a 7 day inspection from IBM.)

I will also check for dead pixels and make sure that the case is OK, anything else specific I should check out. It came with a 1 year warranty. I am coming from a T43 which still meets my needs but I started to have an itch and this was a relatively cheap way to scratch it ($345 US).

It is an AK7 with the 15.4" screen 3 GB RAM, 100 GB drive, finger print, etc

ThinkPad T61p (6457-AK7)
Based on 6457-5KU: T7500(2.2GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 256MB nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

If you have read all the threads, you know this one has an nVidia GPU.
What is the production date? Anything after 08/08 (2008 August) should be OK.
If before that, it's Russian Roulette...

I tried to ascertain the production date but the IBM rep said that was impossible, he was nowhere near the machine. He said I coul order and then have 7 days to get it back to them if I was dissatisfied, no questions asked.

My hunch is that this is a 3 year old machine off lease and is likely going to be in the gray area of July-August 2008.

We shall see.

Given my (lack of) skills, I find the extended warranty a good idea. On my current T43 I had several repairs, beyond my capacity, done in years 4 and 5.

But this is a refurb from IBM, I don't think that Lenovo will do a warranty on this, presumably it is already three years old and given the IBM is throwing in a full year, that may have to suffice.

They will extend it for 2 more years, I'm pretty sure.
