X61 Tablet screen rotation

Received an X61 tablet today. Turned it on for the first time and the screen is portrait in standard laptop mode. It won't turn landscape. In fact, it doesn't respond to being rotated regardless; even in tablet.

Is this a software or hardware issue? Is there a fix?

Hey, there is no accelerometer on the X61, there are physical buttons to rotate the screen near the LCD.

AFAIK, there are accelerometers in most recent ThinkPads, including the X61 (T or non-T), otherwise the APS system wouldn't work.
