Anyone had success updating a T61 to USB 3.0?

Other than perhaps a PCMCIA card, I don't see any other option ...

Doing a google search for USB 3.0 cards gets only express slot cards - they won't work in a T61 will they??

The majority of the T61 are equipped with a Cardbus/Expresscard slot combination, so it usually works.
I have an AKE USB3 Expresscard54 adapter sitting flush in my Expresscard slot.
You can easily find it on eBay searching for usb3+ake+expresscard

I'm not 100% sure that it is indeed a PCMCIA card in RBS's link. It seems too narrow in the picture (although picture may be deceiving).

In any case, ExpressCard is the only way to go for reasonable USB3. PCMCIA is PCI, so is limited to 1Gbps, while ExpressCard is PCIe x1, limited to 2.5Gbps.

How do I tell if my T61 or T400 can take the Express Card?

It should have a flap door on the left side, and not a combination of a fixed slot on top / dummy plastic card on bottom.
