DVD+RW support

#1 Post by Lockheed » Sun Aug 28, 2011 2:07 pm

I have r61. I know it's t61 forum, but the hardware is basically the same and there is more publicity here.

So I have R61 with C2D and Quadro card. I just bought 5 Verbatim DVD+RWs and all burning programs tell me it cannot be formatted because the format is unknown.
Is this the case that this drive does not support them? I had Compaq from 2005 that did DVD+RW just fine...

It sounds like your Ultrabay drive is not capable of writing DVDs. Remove the drive and tell us the FRU on the label.

Well I recorded many DVD RWs on it. Just not sure if any "+" were among them.

Can you at least burn the disks using a burner program (not format them)?

It may be an issue of incompatibility between the drive and the media, or just the drive going south. I have an old drive in my T42 that at some point stop recognizing DVD+ disks, even though DVD- and regular CDs still read and write fine.

Unformatted disk cannot be burnt. I just recorded a DVD-RW but +s just wont format even though they are being detected.

I don't recall ever having to format DVD media to burn it, but then again maybe it's something specific to DVD+RW? I've burnt countless DVD-RW and DVD+Rs without formatting.

If you have Nero InfoTool or some equivalent it should tell you the capabilities of the drive and the media.
