Missing device driver!

#1 Post by Tony.Yarwood » Sun Sep 25, 2011 12:00 am

Hi all

Sorry to bother you all, I'm sure this has been asked before, have looked but can't seem to find the answer. Trying to do a clean install of Win 7 on a T61 7661 - WTD, don't get very far before up pops a message saying; "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now. NOTE: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step"

Have searched the net for hours, seems it's nothing to do with CD/DVD drivers, more to do with SATA drives, it gets pretty darned complicated for different motherboards and things.

Anybody know of a simple solution for T61s?

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards

Tony

It's probably part of the Intel Chipset drivers: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-73684

Many thanks, you could well be right, I'll give it a whirl. It seems to be a fairly common problem from what I can gather, so much for Win7! Mind you, to be fair, I've installed it on a few machines and this is the first one to give me any bother.

Thanks again for your time and trouble

Best regards

Hi Tony,
I recently got exactly the same error when trying to install Windows 8 preview. Problem was an incomplete download of the ISO. Either you have a bad download, or a bad burn, or if using a factory pressed DVD it's either damaged or your optical drive is failing to read part of it. It's not really a driver issue at all.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Hi Neil

That's an answer I've seen a lot from spending a night trawling around the net. To be honest, as I hinted in my first post, as you'll see for yourself if you google it there are half a dozen different explanations for this particular wording "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing." Sigh - another long night :( Guess it's all trial and error :(

Edit - I will start with a clean download though, start with the easier route I suppose :) Let you all know results.

Best regards

Quick update; many thanks Neil seems to have sorted the problem :)

Many thanks for your time and effort
