Failed Panasonic battery on T60 ?

Hi, worked on my t60 2007-fug today with battery power and when it came to 12%, it just shut down. Before, always on low battery it went into sleep mode. Also the battery indicator keeps blinking in orange even after more than 10 minutes on charging mode with ac plugged. I powered on the PC and saw the battery details with thinkpad power manager and it showed me bad battery. I almost sure that it is a Panasonic battery (9cells for sure). Is my battery completely dead suddenly? Use it for about 24 months with a little power decrease by the time (but this is understandable ).
Thanks
Lior

Edit:
Is it OK for Panasonic (I checked) battery to die like so ? I know how o used battery to keep it alive as long as it possible and used this one like this.
If there is anything to to with this battery, where can I buy another one just like this ? I need postage to Ukraine (can be also Israel but will be more difficult for me to get it after that to Ukraine). PayPal is must by me in this case.
Another option is to buy new battery from Local Lenovo shop (already checked and the cost of this 9 cells battery is 135$) but I don't think that it will be Panasonic.

To me, it sounds like a shot battery. Go with RealBlackStuff's idea and get another battery from Thinkpad Lover. Did you smell any smoke when it shut down? I always tend to smell the laptop to see if a component shot :P

didn't smell anything (I always in these cases check this first) or saw anything that seems to be wrong.
Last Couple of months I removed/reattached the battery when the notebook was powered on when I leaved working for few hours for downloading stuff and didn't wanted that the battery will remain 100% all the time. Is it wrong to do so ?
How to maximize the battery life for future ?

When you say 'Maximise the battery life', do you mean as in time or the time it'll last you before a replacement?
It's not wrong to remove the battery, unless you're removing it for long periods of time e.g. going on holiday. In those cases, you would discharge to 40-60% and leave it like that.

I meant before replacement as happened to me in this topic.
About holidays and so, I know. But is it ok to remove it and attach again during the time that the pc powered on?

If you want to try your luck with Lenovo, then you can try ordering by FRU. The FRU for the Panasonic batteries is 92P1139 (6cell) and 92P1133 (9cell). It seems Lenovo is still produces the batteries (under the names Thinkpad Battery 41+/41++), there is a chance the original FRUs are still available.

I know I have seen a Panasonic-branded 41++ somewhere, but don't remember if the FRU was the same or different. I'll try to find it and look up again.

my newer (2010) panasonic 41++ has FRU 42T4620, and older (2007 and 2008) panasonic 41++ are 92P1133.

Ordered 2 used Panasonic 9 cells batteries from forum member. I'll update the thread when I'll receive them and test. I won't pull the battery off again during power on.
