T61 (7659-C29) Video Driver issue With Windows 7 32-bit

This is my first posting, so please go easy on me. I searched all the t6x and windows 7 forums before posting here, so I'm hoping this is an acceptable submission.
I have a T61 (7659-C29) which has the Intel x3100 chipset. I have a Intel 965 Video GPU. The system is running Windows 7 professional 32-bit. For the most part, everything is working great.
However, from time to time the icons on the desktop and the Lenovo Banner (desktop image) become blurry or have lines through them. Note, I'm not talking about the entire display, just the icons. If I run my mouse through the desktop icons they clear up just fine. Running my mouse through the desktop banner has no affect (as its an image).
Win7 reported that the video driver temporarily stopped working. As far as I can tell, I'm running the latest driver, which is 8.15.10.1867.
The Fnkey commands work fine (ie brightness and dimming with on screen display all working). Has anyone seen this before - any ideas how I can get the video driver to stabilize?
I would like to maintain Fn key support with all the other various thinkvantage functions (as compared to ripping out the driver and installing a generic Intel driver)....
Thoughts ?
