LG Flexview LCD replacement or inverter problem?

I have two T60p machines. My main workhorse has a very bright screen, the backup notebook's LCD has always been a few notches dimmer.

I'm trying to determine whether this is caused by a dying backlight or whether it could be the inverter card that needs changing.

I was shocked this week to hear that IBM parts had no stock left. The T60p is 4-5 years old, but still. I found another parts seller. Though they guaranteed the part was new and genuine IBM the panel is clearly refurbished/used.

Imagine my surprise when I saw that the new panel has the same brightness issue as the old. Is that an indication the inverter could be the problem or could there be other reasons?

If you're looking at LG Phillips SXGA+ panels, their backlights wear out quite quickly as per collective experience of this forum...which is a sin, since they're rather nice when new or nearly new - looking at one right now.

Apart from going to UXGA and obtaining a NOS Hydis panel, or replacing the CCFL yourself on the existing screen, I'm pretty much out of suggestions...

Good luck.
