Shipped 5/16/05!
According to the UPS site it was shipped this morning from HK!mekman wrote:I ordered a X32 on 4/30/05 with a ship date of 5/31/05, I'm hoping it comes sooner...let me know when you get yours.rayfranco wrote:Scud,

Yes....I ordered th X32 2885-K4U
Yes...I ordered the TP X32 2885 K4U, Call the Sales guy, I ordered mine May 1, 2005 (I thought I ordered it April 31). I'd call the Levono again.rayfranco wrote:mekman,
According to the IBM website, mine has been at packaging since 6 May 05, and it has not shipped. Did you order an X32 2885-K4U?
Checked the UPS site.rayfranco wrote:mekman,
Two to three days.
I paid extra for second day air, when I ordered. However, it is my understand that Levono ships everything second day air, and there is no extra charge.
According to the UPS sit there is a special customs delay...don't know what that means.

Package arrived this morning, but I was running an errand. The note says they'll try for a re-delivery tomorrow morning. I called UPS and they will attempt to make a second delivery Later this afternoon.
mekman,
Mine arrived at 9:00 AM on 17 May 2005.
It is definately an ultraportable and it is fast.
I can't figure out what Scud was complaining about. I love everything about it. No, I do not think the bezel looks ugly or large, and the double latches don't bother me at all...and yes it is thin. It may not be as thin as the X41 or wedge shapped, but it is a Great looking machine, and it certainly feels like an ultra portable.
I'm been putting it through some heavy use, and I have yet to hear the fan come on, but it may be that my desktop fan is so loud it is overiding my ears.
I looked at a lot of pictures before I decided on the X32, but they didn't do it justice. I thought I would have to give up something for performance, but I didn't.
The looks and feel of this machine have exceeded all of my expections!!!

I agree on all points, I thought the bezel would turn me off but it's perfectly fine in real life.
The unit came with the X3 UltraDock (That was a suprise) and the battery came pre charged!
The Keyboard is awesome, the keys are somewhat small compared to the a21p...especially the backspace and enter keys. But I can get used to that quickly. The size and lightness of the machine has really won me over.
I'm leaning towards drooling over the X41 more, simply because it IS a little smaller, and it uses DDR2. Not much of an advantage now, but look at what happened to EDO when SDRAM got popular, and SDRAM when DDR got popular? They got MUCH more expensive!
However, there's things I like about the X32, as well (better colored ThinkLight, faster CPU)...
At least I don't have to deal with this one due to insufficient funds

Having just received an X32 (2884M2U) and used it for almost a week, I've now placed my vote FOR it, though not for it being better than the X41. Since I've never seen or used an X40 or 41, I can't make that claim. But the 32 is a fine machine.
I could only find two relatively minor negatives with the X32 unit I was sent - a loose-fitting battery, and a spacebar key that bottomed out with a loud tapping sound and had a cheap feel to it. EasyServ promptly sent a Sanyo battery to replace the M a t s u s h i t a, and a new keyboard to install. The Sanyo fits snugly and doesn't rattle like the M a t s u s h i t a did. According to the ES rep, there is only one manufacturer of the keyboard on the X32, but the key on the original one must have just been faulty, because the replacement keyboard I've just installed works fine and has a great response overall.
This will mostly replace the TP 240 I was using previously, but it's still running well and will be a reliable, and lighter-weight, standby when needed.
I'm not sure I'll keep the X3 base and Ultrabay IV CDRW/DVD that came with this though, as I generally have no need for it at home, and already have a USB optical drive to travel with, so I may be posting this in the for sale section here ... or if anyone is looking for a Combo/X3base, you can send a PM.

I actually bought the X32, sold it, and then bought it back from the guy I sold it to. The reason was that while I predominately use Apple OS X in my office, the PowerBooks, iBooks and MacBooks just don't travel as well as the X32 did.
Even in this day of dual core X60s and the like, its hard to beat the amazing battery and solid build quality of the X32. Mine has a warranty until November of 2008, and I actually just might keep it that long.

Now wouldn't *that* be fun?
But you know what they say; once you go Black, you never go back. Which is why they now have black MacBooks (which look quite nice by the way).

It was actually an order problem on an Apple accessory that made me go back to using a ThinkPad for travel. I ordered an external battery charger for the 12" PowerBook (before upgrading to the MacBook) for a recent business trip, and it was delayed in shipping. Faced with waking up twice every night to swap batteries for recharge (11 hour workdays unplugged - 3 PowerBook batteries) I just brought my X32 instead, with the main and extended batteries.
I REALLY hate Windows and despite a lot of effort in Fedora, Ubuntu and SuSe, have never been able to get DVD movie playback to work in Linux (essential for travel). That is why I wanted to travel with the PowerBook. The X32 just did so well on that trip, still having 30% or so of its battery left even after 11 hours of use (200MHz and undervolted processor, screen dim to minimum, everything unessential turned off), which is amazing longevity in my book and was still very usable for taking notes (and reading them).
I just bought an X41 from Brainpicker and am very eagerly awaiting its arrival, and have prepared the X32 for shipping to my brother-in-law in Korea (he makes a lot of super-long flights as well). I'm hoping that the X41 is as nice a travel machine as the X32, but from what I've been told and read on this forum, I think it will prove even better. I know the hard drive will suck, but I lived on 4200 RPM hard drives (2.5") for many years before I discovered faster ones, and on an ultralight I can handle going back.
As for the MacBook, it is terrific. It is absolutely the fastest computer I've ever used, in OS X or Windows XP (Boot Camp). I've even found some hacks on the web to make it a fully-functional Windows machine, including support for the various hotkeys (volume, brightness, etc) and the missing "delete" (mapped to 'fn-delete') and "right click" (mapped to 'fn-click' and 'enter'). With that modification, it turns the MacBook into essentially the equivalent of a Z-series ThinkPad that is thinner and lighter.
The black MacBook even ahs the rubber-like paint that ThinkPads used to have, and shows just as much oil from hands and fingers as those old ThinkPads used to. The screen controls glare better than any glossy panel I've ever used, and the keyboard, while very strange looking and feeling at first, has really grown on me, with excellent action and very fast response. It still looks and feels strange, but its at or near Thinkpad level for the keys themselves.
Build quality is also up to ThinkPad levels, though the thing does run very hot. Using an OS X temperature monitor, it typpically shows 72C on the first core and 70C on the second. Thats hot folks. I wonder if the 2GHz CoreDuo processors in the ThinkPad T60 and X60 run that hot.
Actually the MacBook has replaced both my 12" and 15" PowerBooks rather well for everything except travel (it weighs 5.2lbs and runs about 5 hours real world on batteries (screen fairly dim and wifi off). I'm hoping the X41 will fill in the void. I might even try OS X on it. I've had great luck with everything except video on ThinkPads with OS X, and since the X41 uses a GMA just like many Apples do (the test platforms were the same GMA900 as the X41), I'm hoping it will just work out of the box. If video and sleep work (and DVD movies), I might not even bother with Windows on it.

Sounds like you really like that MacBook.
Although, that is running hot for even a Core Duo; the MacBooks I have tried never reached those temperatures unless you pushed them.

Might be time for a trip to Apple then. There are reports of heat problems due to the fitment of too much thermal compound.
