Sad Sunday for a ZIF drive :-( **PICS**

Real bad, I was going to put swap a Samsung HS060HB drive in a X41, when trying to pull the black plastic tab from the ZIF connector it broke!!





My guess is that a fix is not possibly or horribly expensive... But I'll be more than glad if I'm proved wrong...

Not quite sure where those black parts came from.
You make it look as if they came from the drive.
Picture of the (broken) ZIF adapter available?

Those parts come from the drive itself, over the white ZIF connector, it can be seen in step 1 from this link here.

By the looks of it, you might check the connector on the ZIF-adapter itself.
If they are the same, you could buy another adapter and remove its black 'strip' and transfer it to the drive.
Would be cheaper than another drive!

Thanks for the hint RBS! I guess I could give it a try, the only problem is that the connector is really tiny. I would probably need a big big magnifier glass

Check family and friends for people who do cross stitch (Kreuzstich/Stickerei).
Quite often they have a large magnifying glass, which you hang around your neck.

If I remember my zif experiences correctly, the black tab is not meant to be removed, only rotated. Also, my cables sometimes didn't fit snug inspite of the presence of the tab and the solution was a layer or 2 of cellophane tape applied to the insulated side of the cable to snug the fit.
Once it's assembled, another wrap or 2 will hold it.

I know, I have already installed 4 ZIF drives in all my X4x machines, but I guess this one was defective since I did not apply a lot of force and it broke...

If you have good dexterity, the two parts can still be put back into the connector. They will stay in place once they are wedged under the contacts. Yes, a big magnifying glass with lights do help.
