Changing Mouse Orientation

#1 Post by snappy » Tue Jun 15, 2004 6:09 pm

Hi folks,

Anyone knows how to tweak the TrackPoint so that its orientation is rotated?
ie,
when I move up, it translate to left
down->right
right->up
left->down

ok, before you start thinking I am on a masochistic run, I've tried PivotPro (thanks to csv96, see other post), and it works great on my X30. The only quirk is the orientation of the trackpoint which the option in PivotPro does not seem to solve.

Anyone knows software that I can use to solve this?

No, I've tried to figure out how to get that to happen for at least 6 months. I sometimes use my T40p in book mode and that has always been the one thing I've wanted to get working right.

At the moment, my brain has adapted and I just have figured out instinctively how to move around the screen in portrait mode.

wow ... so you *patched* your brain to switch to portrait mode instead? ;)

I'm checking out the Intel site to see if they have anything to work out. Seems the 830MG on my x30 actually supports portrait mode natively, and I found a registry setting called RotationPolicy (set to 0), and one RotationCaps (set to 7). Am trying to see if Intel has any developer's guide to the registry setting ... :P

btw, I just found that my trusty Microsoft Optical mouse comes with IntelliPoint which has an orientation option. Will install and see if it works with TrackPoint. :)

**Good News**

I managed to write a mouse hook routine to swap my trackpoint (mouse) so that everything works fine in portrait mode! :)

You can download a zip file from http://www.geocities.com/zxswap/

Cynic, now you do not have to adapt your brain anymore! :)

Hi cynic,

I've just updated the file. It should contain ZXSwap0.4beta.

Fixed:
1. Mouse go crazy when ZXSwap run in normal orientation.
2. ZXSwap works only in 768X1024Portrait mode. It now autodetects the screen resolution, though I've only tried the different resolution for X30. But should work, since it queries the system for the screen res.
3. Fixed mouse cursor looping from left and top edge of screen. (Though come to think of it, it is quite cool! hehe)

Now, simply run ZXSwap and then press CTRL-R or CTRL-SHIFT-7 to swap to 270deg portrait mode.

If you want, you can leave ZXSwap running in the background (taskbar minimized). Usage of system would be seamless when switching to portrait mode.

New issues I found:
6. ZXSwap does not work at logon page after lockup, suspend or hibernate. This is a known issue as no user app is allowed to run at the logon screen. The logon screen is actually a different desktop that is *secure* and manged by MSGINA.

Enjoy reading the X30 book! :)
