Educate me on the X41 Tablet

#1 Post by ParatoOptimal » Sat Apr 07, 2012 3:09 pm

What is good/bad about the x41 tablet?
What should I look for in purchasing one?
What should I stay away from?
What software/hardware should I get for it?
Should I get something else instead?
What's a good price?

Thank you

My experience so far with X41t...

Nice screen, small enough for being a tablet, Thinkpad sturdy, cool. On the negative side the X4 series uses a pretty lame hard drive. You can overcome this with different HDDs or SSDs, check a bit the X4 series thread in this forum for more information, there are plenty of discussions around here

I've used Ubunto distros and Win7 on mine. I slightly prefer Win 7 since it supports the tablet functions ootb, while you need to twinker more with Linux to get tablet functions working.

Well, if your budget allows it, you can go for an X6xT or even X2xxT, I'm not familiar with prices in the US used marked though...

Hope this helps...

Has anyone tried on OS that would allow the use of Apps?

I almost forgot! I tested Android and worked quite good, but some fellows were more motivated, see here

X41T would be a fabulous little machine if it were not crippled by its ridiculous 1.8"/4200 hard drive, which is both slow and noisy.

If you have any intent of actually using the unit in any productive manner, an upgrade to a ZIF HDD or SSD is a must.

With that, you're already entering the X60T price range and there really is no comparison between the two...

So save a few more bucks and get yourself a X60T...or a X61T if you can afford it.
