Standby mode not available on x40

I have just reinstalled XP on my x40 as it was running really slowly.

For some reason the Standby button is now greyed out, and when I shut the lid it does not go into standby.

I have installed the Lenovo Power Manager and anything else that looked relevant on the Lenovo website.

Any ideas?

Is the video card driver installed? In the Device Manager what appears under "Display Adapters"?
