ibm thinkpad x30 withbase but will not play ps1 disk

not shure if this has been asked but is there a way to play psx games on cd/dvd non rw capable disk drive and if so i found my old favorite game for ps1 but to my extent i have had no luck it fails to even recognize there is a disk even in there <two days of trying to figure this out on my own> my cd/dvd is made by toshiba sd-c2302 any help is most appriciated i love ps1 but im alwase on the go me and the wife drive everywhere so i got an old school laptop p3 r 1.2 40gig hd ibm thinkpad x30 <by the way i love it so far> so its a keeper unless no ps1 then imma have to go newer just i have alwase trusted ibm they alwase made sturdy stuff. also im runnin win xp please someone help me

sorry but its just very troublesome any way as i had stated i have a x30 thinkpad with the base. i cannot seem to get the dvd/rom drive to recognize a ps1 disk and psx2 still did not work but thnx for the support if there are any other suggestions please shoot em my way.
i still wanna play this game on the road [gran turismo 2] awsome game please help i have psx1 all set up and i get a black screen when i try to boot the cd and psx 2 well maybe i didnt set psx2 up right im hoping to get that to work any suggestions?
