How ot install an OS onto a TP X20

#1 Post by Olde Man » Sun Oct 28, 2012 7:13 pm

Just looking at this rig, I get the impression that I would have to install a new OS with a flash drive if I don't have a docking station. That right?

Will it work with a blank HD?

What OS are you thinking of installing?
I'm not sure an X20 will boot from USB...does it?
If you have a floppy drive, you could boot from a PloP floppy boot manager, then install from USB.

It's fairly difficult, but not impossible, to make a USB flash drive that will boot and install Windows. On the other hand, it's fairly easy to make a USB install for Linux with Unetbootin.

Now, what I did with my wife's X24, was format the HDD and make it bootable with a Win98 floppy, in a A31p with CD and floppy drives, then copied the WinXP i386 folder to that drive. Swapped the HDD into the X24, booted it up and installed XP. You can, of course, install Win98SE in a similar fashion.
