Frustration installing SSD in X31 (reduces space)

#1 Post by supersailorsailing » Thu Nov 15, 2012 4:04 pm

Recently I bought a Transcend PATA 64 GB SSD for my X31. I installed Windows XP from a CD via the dock, but the partitioned space was reduced to about 4GB and the rest was unallocated although the SSD booted fine. Same thing trying to install Windows 7, except the partition size was about 7GB. On trying to extend the partition, the drive became unbootable. I also tried migrating the OS from the original HDD to the SSD, but the migrated OS would not boot (and I did migrate also the relevant boot files). I did all of this trying a number of programs and utilities: Partition Magic, Aomei, Widows Disk Manager to name a few, but still no success. I cannot get this to work, have spent lots of time trying various solutions recommended online but still without success. Help, anyone? Thanks in advance.

Simple work around is to let it set up however it wants to, then (re)partition the drive to be "C" and "D".
You could then try and merge the "2" drives after the fact.
