X41 screen problem/dark

#1 Post by tintin13 » Sun Nov 25, 2012 2:40 am

I've just gotten a x41 tablet and have been testing it with linux mint 13 xfce live usb.

Are x41 screens usually quite dark or is the screen knackered ? And if the screen is nackered what can i do ?
It's too dark to watch a movie for example, when there are darker colors i just can't make anything out.

I've taken a couple of screenshots with the x41 besides my hp g62 for comparisson.

Yeah-a new bulb could probably do the trick. I'm not sure-but I assume there's someone on here you can contact to help you. Doing something like that yourself is pretty difficult.

I've replaced the bulb on a couple of G41 screens, it's not something I'd like to do often.

Is it worth going threw with a repair like that.

I found bulbs for about 17 dollars, but i image getting it replaced in a repair shop would cost a fair bit. Is this something a noob as myself can pull off ?

From what i've read/seen so far when the bulb goes bad the screen turns a reddish color. Mine doesn't so is it the bulb ?

Replacing a CCFL is not for the faint of heart, and without experience, I'd leave it.
It'll be cheaper to buy another LCD, rather than bring it to a shop that most likely will balls it up.
You can read up on it here, but your screen will be quite different from the described procedure: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=88991
CCFLs get dimmer over time. When they are near their end, they turn pink, then die.
You could try to replace the inverter, it's the cheaper evil, but may not give you the result you want.

Indeed. I say you have two options (well... three):

-You can buy another screen, and replace it yourself. They're all over ebay, just search X61, 12.1", LCD screen. It'd be a bit of work taking apart your X61 and taking apart the screen bezel, but it's not as difficult as a CCFL bulb fix.

-You can buy another screen bezel with a good screen in it, and interchange them yourself. Even easier than replacing the screen, but a bit more pricey.

-Take it to a repair shop. I'd advise against this unless you have absolutely no experience in tinkering or little desire or confidence to try and do it yourself.

Unless you want to try a CCFL bulb fix. There are guides and walkthroughs on this forum, and videos people here will direct you to.
