How is web browsing with an X32 (2884A2U)

I want a really portable notebook PC that I can take with me anywhere, to the coffee shop as well on planes etc.. But I also want a PC that's nice to browse the internet with. Would the X32 fit the bill? How is the display (brightness and sharpness) and resolution for web browsing?

While I don't have an X series in my hands yet, I have read a zillion posts researching my own purchase and I am pretty sure any of the X series will be much more then enough horsepower for web browsing...and a lot more.

Well, the 12" XGA can go two ways depending on your eyesight. Some people complain that the screen is too small while other people will say the XGA resoultion on the smaller screen makes for one razor sharp image. I've never used an X series, but I do have a 12" XGA screen on my 760, so I'm guessing that I at least have a feel for the screen and I do have to say that if the X series 12" is anything like the 760XD 12", then the word great does not even begin to describe it.

The 12.1" XGA display of the 760XD was absolutely "bleeding edge" when it was introduced in April of 1997.

Like Alex, I've never seen anything to beat it in the same size, nor few that even rivalled it.

They were quickly supplanted by the 13.3" XGA displays in the 600 series introduced in April of 1998, but they weren't truly eclipsed until the introduction of the 13.7" SXGA display in the 770X 18 months after the 760XD hit the streets, yet another standard setter.

I'd feel safe in saying that the circa 1997 XGA screen I have is brighter than the 13" screen on my friends Dell. As for it being bleeding edge at the time, well, I'd respond to that by saying it's also an example of a product done right. If I'm not mistaken, I think IBM had a joint venture with Toshiba who already had an XGA screen on their Tecra 720CDT which was on the streets in early or mid 1996. I remember reading mixed reviews on that one. IBM caught up in October 1996 with the revised 760E and 760ED. I know the IBM LCD is nice because I have one, I'm not too sure, however, about the quality on the Toshiba screen, but I'm pretty sure it's simmilar if I was correct about them and IBM having a joint venture.

Only probelm with the 12" XGA's are that there's not enough demand for them as a 13" is not much harder to carry around and manufacturing 12" LCD's just doesn't give that great of a return in profits.
