#1 Post by cybercorsair » Sun Dec 09, 2012 9:07 pm

I have a X200 Tablet a 7452 WMG Running Windows 7 now after upping it from Vista. I want to add a WWan card but need to know which one is right I know there are 3g ones but is there a 4 G one ? I seeing a lot on Ebay but would like to find the right one and not just buy one that isn't right.. I see some that list as Unlocked.. So need to find out if that mean the same as on phones and got any where for connection.

Best 3G+GPS card for the X200T is the Ericsson F3507g. It's also fully compatible because some X200T's shipped with it - just look for an unlocked Lenovo branded one. And yes, "unlocked" means the same thing as on mobile phones - locked ones work with only one carrier.

There are no official 4G cards for the X200T so using one of those will probably require flashing a no-whitelisted BIOS. Also, there are two major types of 4G technologies - LTE and WiMAX. LTE works the same way as 3G cards and use a SIM slot, whereas WiMAX cards don't.

Last thing - did you check if you have the WWAN antennas on your notebook? If you don't you're gonna have to buy those as well and install them yourself. Some LTE cards need 3 antennas as opposed to the usual 2, and i don't think X200T's have that many since they weren't designed for that. Only the latest notebooks have 4G options and the 4G pci-e cards are really expensive. If you really end up needing 4G you can use a USB or ExpressCard module.

And yes, wrong forum.

Thank for the info sorry if this was posted wrong I had posted on another post and Bill said start new thread and linked me here.
I was planing on looking at the antennas connections before I order but I have installed antennas before on systems.
I only worry about the 4G and that 3G could get phased out..

Thanks and sorry this was posted in the wrong place was just posting this to where i was linked to..

I doubt it, considering that most providers still actively maintain the old GPRS and GSM (2G) networks. LTE is just an evolution/enhancement of the current UMTS technologies like HSPA+. "3G" and "4G" are just umbrella terms for a number of different mobile broadband tech that's in constant evolution. So you'll be able to use your 3G internet for many years to come. That's assuming a maximum bandwidth of 7.2Mbps downlink / 2.0Mbps uplink is enough for you.

A big advantage of LTE is the low latencies which makes playing online games over WWAN much better. But this is a ThinkPad forum, so it's not exactly the gamer crowd :) As i mentioned before, considering the current price for LTE cards it makes more sense to find a cheap 3G one now and later get an expresscard module if there is a desperate need for 4G. Even now many companies offer pocket-sized mobile routers as part of their subscription plans.

I am just looking to have a connection when out working.. no gaming but would like to get to a network I can work from anywhere.. a pay as you go has it cost for the device.. Adding a card I pay under $40 for would be great...pending I just have to plug it in and connect the cables(if they are in the systems which i think they are) The sim card hold is in place under tha battery so that would seem to say there is some room to expands the system. Looking at all options for this Thanks

If you're going for something under 40$, then a 3G WWAN card is your only choice.

Average 3G Card - ~20-30$
Average 4G LTE card - 200-220$

Also, it should be very easy to determine if your X200 has a WWAN antenna installed - just check if it has the "bump" on the top-right corner of the display. First thing i'd do is remove the keyboard and palmrest to check if i even have a second pci slot and all antenna leads...

Found an unlock card for $19 and did the check first for the antenna and the connections are there and even the screws for mounting are in there.. Very small and simple unit inside very clean.. should have card next week and have located two videos for installing the card..

Very impressive systems ..I have only had this a few weeks. Got it at a computer shop i get some of my equipment from thy had got it in in a lot sale from a business it had never been used or at best not used much.. Did order some new batteries they came last week and are like new never used and were made this year. Adding the Wwan card will make a real work systems.

thanks
