Ordering X40 While Waiting for X41?

#1 Post by Orbitz » Tue May 03, 2005 12:23 pm

I just sold my T41p and am now without a laptop while waiting on the X41's to arrive (purchasing from Bill). I just called IBM to get an update on when they expect them to start shipping...they are still qouting 20 work days over the phone anyway...my problem is I can't be without a laptop for another month. Soo...would it make me a really bad guy if I were to order an X40 from IBM to use in the meantime...then return it when Bill gets his shipment in? I don't think I have ever bought anything with a plan to return it, however, I am in a little bit of a pinch waiting for the X41's to ship. I can live without it for another week (which seems to be about how long it would take IMB to get me an X40) buy it seems a longshot the X41's will be shipping by then.

Yes, I think that would be wrong.
I personally have returned several laptops, but not intentionally.
You would be deliberately taking a brand new product and turning it into a used one for IBM (Lenovo).
Like I said...I have done the same, but I didn't order the laptop with that intention.

the best way to answer this really is...would you like it if you owned a business and someone bought something with the intention of returning it so you now had to sale your perfectly fine product for a lower price??

but, that does bring up a new question. although not ethical. what if you were to make a practice of this. as the local electronics store "frys Electronics" does repackage returned items and places them on the shelfs for discounted prices. buy what you want return it and then get a discount.

haha, that is wrong.

Yeah...I knew it was wrong...just hoping my moral compass was off a little :) I guess I will have to wait like everyone else...but it was a fun thought for a little less then a minute.

Yeah, I had jokingly suggested that you buy and return one to Dell or HP, then I changed it to "oops" when I saw that you had "come to your senses!"
Good luck!

fyi

It may take just as long to get a new X40. I ordered a X40 with P1.5Mhz which was listed as in stock but it was not shipped until 2 weeks later and another 3-4 days before it arrived - so regardless you would still have to wait for an upward of 3 weeks.

BTW the new X40 was manufactured and shipped from China - for those who cares.
It's all about Thinkpad
