Hello,
My friend's X301 is having a problem. His X301 cannot detect its own SSD. The SSD comes with the X301, so I believe it has no TRIM support.
So here's the story :
About a few days ago, a friend of mine did a secure erase procedure for his ssd with X301.
Everything went OK until he shutdown the X301 and then tried to start the laptop the next day after he did a clean install. The X301 showed 2100 error, which mean no drive is connected.
He brought the SSD to me today, I've tried it on my T61 using an adapter, but the T61 also showing the 2100 error, too. I even tried the ssd on my desktop pc, but no ssd detected (I have a microsata ssd, and the desktop pc cannot detect it, but my T61 was able to detect the ssd using the adapter).
Tried using a linux live cd, but still no luck.
Can I save the ssd, or it's dead already?
Thank you for your comment and advice.

Re: X301 won't detect SSD
Hi,
Generally when an SSD fails, it goes off like a lightbulb and is dead... end of story, however a traditional HDD will fail more like the cooling fan on your laptop, first you notice it running hot, or a bit of noise, and it gradually gets worse givng you time to locate a replacement, but you get no warning with an SSD which is why it's recommended to backup important data often.
Regarding this SSD, why did the person want to mess with the drive in the first place, was it having problems? What exactly did he do when he tried to erase it? I don't think I'd ever try to do this on an SSD, the more you write the chips in it, the shorter the life, so doing something like a secure erase where it erases/writes/erases/writes repeatedly is a really bad idea. I'm also not sure if software to do this to an HDD could cause fatal damage to an SSD besides normal wear and tear. I think your best bet is to contact the manufacture of the drive and see what their support people say, or if the laptop is in warranty, tell lenovo the bios won't recognise the drive (confirmed in two laptops), and they will replace it.
Good Luck

Re: X301 won't detect SSD
Hi Mr. TuuS,
Thank you for your comment.
So the best solution was get a new ssd for the X301 since the X301 is out of warranty. My friend bought my 1.8 inch ssd to replace his dead ssd.
I did a secure erase on my T61 for my ssd and then installed the ssd into X301, and it worked like a charm
