'nother x20 noob with ram and hd questions

#1 Post by poe11371 » Sun May 08, 2005 1:21 am

How much ram can it take?

I know it says the max is 320, but say mine comes with 128 preinstalled then that only leaves me 192 and last i checked they do not sell stips of ram in 192. So, if I added a 256mb strip will it casue it to get all funky? So long as it is pc-100 and low-density - which is the most important factor.

How big of a hard drive cam I cram in this puppy?

I have seen 40gb drives talked up and down the board, but could I throw at 60 or 80gb drive at it and not sweat it?

Thats is all. Thanks!

Hi there

You can install a 256 mb module, however, the X20 will only utilize 320 mb.
It will take any harddisk as long as it is a 2,5". You can also put in a 5400 or even 7200 rpm disk.

Like was said, the X20 system can only address up to 320MB. I believe the X21 is the same, but the X22 is 384MB (128MB onboard).

The X20 will only accept PC-100. If you try PC-133, the machine either won't power on or it will not recognize the extra RAM.

You can use any HD capacity and speed.

Correct Explination......
The X20 has 64mb soldered on board
if you have 128 mb, you have the onboard plus a 64 dimm in the slot.
To upgrade to 320, you take the 64 dimm out and install a 256 low density pc100
Yes a 60 or 80 will work.

On the X2* HW Maintenance Manual, it lists 64MB, 128MB, and 256MB SODIMMs as options for the X20/21.

AFAICT (but the manual's not helping me anymore), the X20 has 64MB on board. 64MB + 256MB = 320MB.

The X21 has either 64MB or 128MB on board (mine definitely appears to be one of the 128MB on board ones - I haven't recieved it yet, though). If it has 128MB, then it can go to 384MB. Otherwise, it's the same exact mobo that the X20 has, and can only go to 320.
