How does the drive connect to the X40 w/out the ultrabase?
Hey,
I'm looking at a 2382JEU. It comes with a CDRW/DVD-ROM optical device but no port replicator or ultrabase.
So then how does the optical drive connect to the laptop?
Thanks,
--Adam

Very strange. I had seen a link with it and then the next link didn't have it (when I was configuring it on IBM's, err Levono's, site).
Oh well, as long as it works

I hope the site you've linked is correct. I ordered the TP X32 model "2885 K4U" and it supposedly comes with a Combo Drive IV (a drive that you stick into the dock) and 5400 rpm 60g drive (Levono site). The ibm site claims it's a 7200 rpm drive and that it comes with the dock. Well I hope the Levono site is wrong! since that means I'd have a even better deal!tselling wrote:According to this link, its supposed to come with the ultrabase:

Interesting note. I went to see the "Student" discount site, and the same model was a 5400 rpm 60gb drive. But under expansion it listed docking station included....

i was wondering the same thing... i wanna order the 2885-K4U but i can't figure out what the "docking station" actually is.
along with that my other question is...when i add options it keeps asking me to choose a "Standard Wireless option" but it comes built in with bluetooth and a/b/g ...so i dont need one...this is confusing...

you got your 2885k4u?? How do you like it? I am ordering it very soon and would like ur opinion on it and pics if u dont mind.
How is the LCD screen? I am used to a Dell 2001fp lcd so i hope the 12inch isnt that horrible.
So it indeed does come with the Ultrabase.
How much did u pay? and when did u order it?

Yes, almost missed it. UPS was awesome, they came back at the end of the day and dropped it off. I won't have time to take pictures (I will at some point...but by that time you'll have a new TP!).phiber wrote:you got your 2885k4u?? How do you like it? Screen is good, I've got a 15" 1600x1200 (TP a21p) and a 19" 1280x800 (?) and I like the screen on the X32. Its comfortable on my eyes.
Overall I'm impressed, it's fast and quiet. The screen is just right for some odd reason. and I thought the X32 would be a clunky looking machine, but it's not. It's also very light.
The wireless works perfectly with my Linksys 802.11g router...which was a suprise!
The built in CF reader will come in handy when I do take the pictures!
The keyboard is nice, the only problem for me is getting used to the small backspace key. Come to think of it...I think I like this keyboard alot. This is "compared" to an IBM a21p Thinkpad and a new regular IBM keyboard.
I got mine through the IBM EPP program, I probably can say that this was the best deal I found (with the ultra dock)...I looked at the Sony Vaio 360/360p and the Toshiba m205. Overall the "perceived" quality of the TP sold me. I think the Toshiba m205 is made well too. I think the Sony's are also good.
Nice touches: Battery was ready to go!
Documentation: Not much. Honestly. I don't need the clutter.
Hard to say, I guess the site is accurate. they claimed 2-4 weeks. They told me to expect it in 31 days. But I got mine within the 2 weeks. Just expect delivery after you get notification that it shipped. In my case I got notified Sunday/Monday morning and I actually got it Tuesday morning (actually afternoon...I missed the UPS drop)! Of course your mileage may vary.phiber wrote:i wonder how long it would take me to get it if i ordered it tomorrow...also does the ultrabase come with DVI out *crosses fingers*
There's no DVI port on the ultradock. I believe the other dock options have the DVI port.
